Perhaps something to water down on the SW:TOR excitement? This fall, Sony Online Entertainment, will release Star Wars Clone Wars Adventures, that will be free-to-play on your web browser. Based on SOE's Free Realms engine, the game lets players create a character and then enter a word where they'll be given access to lots of mini-games, with an emphasis on action, competition and socialising.

It's a simplegame no doubt, but don't be surprised if you get hooked in. The creator's aim was to make a game that one would play for just 10 minutes, right before he or she goes to bed. Turns out, he got more than he bargained for. Don't let the screens fool you. It may look like a typical indie game. It's fun!

We're waiting for Heavy Rain, and some of us, can't play our PS3, because of that error of death on the PSN. Sony's really got themselves in a huge cluster-fudge, and this is really a PR nightmare. What more it's all happening within the year's biggest releases, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, and Final Fantasy XIII.
Now I've read news before that a kid got arrested for messing up some game website, and I wonder if this Sony PSN facepalm incident is a result of yet another cyber-terrorist attack against gamers. Whatever the case. If you're itching for some Heavy Rain, might I suggest this youtube page for you. I've embedded it right here.

Before I start, I want to wish everyone a HAPP Y TWENTY-TEN(2010)! Not two thousand and ten, but twenty-ten or 20-10, if you prefer digits. We didn't call 19-90, one thousand nine hundred and ninety, neither did most of us use two thousand and twelve for the movie 2012, we used twenty-twelve, or 20-12. So now that I've drilled that into your head, WHAT GAMES ARE YOU WAITING FOR THIS YEAR!!
If you ask me, I have a long wish-list thats making a paper trail all around the house! To start off, there's Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Command & Conquer 4, God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII(English version plzkthx), Mass Effect 2 and Dead Rising 2(yes I'm waiting to beat up zombies with a toilet bowl, if possible).
MMO-wise, Star Wars: The Old Republic, is starting to look sweet to me, but then again, I'd probably be pulled away into FFXIV by my friends. Then there's Blade and Soul, that game from the makers of Lineage 2 and Aion. Last but not least, I'm guessing that if World of Warcraft: Cataclysm does arrive, I'll be wishing I had 72 hours in day!!
Alas, enough about me because I could really go on and on, what titles are all you gamers waiting for this year?
PS: Here's a list of games possibly to be released this 2010!

If you were saddened at discovering that Evony is a horrible, horrible ripoff attempt at trying to hack into your computer, then hey, chin up. Christmas just went, but that doesn't mean we can't give you presents!
Massively pointed us in the direction of Heroes of Gaia, a free-to-play micro-transaction title that's completely legit. And looks pretty fun to boot.
It has both PvE and PvP elements, which automatically set it apart from the crowd. After all, most such browser-based MMO's are almost purely PvP. The new Babel expansion adds an extra 40-level dungeon/tower for players to climb, offering rewards for the daring, and ignoble defeat for the unwary. There are also new instanced challenges for you to encounter and fight for if you so choose.
In PvP, its arena, weapons and other systems have been upgraded to suit aggressive players better. A military ranking system better pits players against each other in the arena with unique prizes available to the victor.
If all this sounds like fun, check it out here

Have
you ever impulsively bought a certain item, only to regret later after
frantically finding the receipt and realizing it had a ‘no return’
policy? Same thing goes with buying virtual items, which in real life,
virtually does not exist. Gamasutra’s Brandon Sheffield goes on to elaborate why this digital form of ‘snake
oil’ which is in short, selling of something that is masquerading as
something that has worth in itself (alright, think all-in-one miracle pills that do not exactly work), is nothing more than an empty vassal of hot air?

Holy Moley. I
think I just hit another low spot, for nonstop gaming with no reprise
even though I am feeling freaking grouchy from the lack of sleep. Even
though this massive farming that I do might not see its effects
anywhere soon, to heck with it.
What am I on about? You know the usual whatnots, namely where I have
one hand still grappling for my psp’s analogue controller while trying
to prevent myself from dozing off. Alright. I got hooked this time
around. On a card game. That usually would not be approached even with
a 12-foot pole. Then why did I play it? Well. Two words.
Peer pressure. And now, even
though the peers are not around to watch my every move, whether I was
utilizing cheats or walkthroughs to make my life alot easier, the point
was that I feel the need to level up quickly. A simple conversation
can attest for this obsession.
Me: Mm. *settles down to play* 2 hours later… Me: Mm. *groans from sitting too long in a position* 4 hours later… Me: Mm. *stomach growls* 6 hours later… Me: Mm. Zzz.

SMH
reports that lazy people are aplenty amongst us, and most of them who
are not already gamers, have recently been converted. Just ask around
and see what people might want for Christmas and you might be
pleasantly surprised by how many would say yes to a free Wii set. I
know I would. The
point here was that if you could spend the same amount of time sweating
it off in a gym full of smelly socks and sour odours of god knows what,
you could very well take on the Wii Fit Plus challenge. Not that it is allegedly much of a workout but more of a leisurely walk in the park, but still the Wii Fit Plus remains with much popularity. Of course where there is a demand, there are always alternatives such as EA Sports Active,
and of course that weird no brand Wii-lookalike selling at Sim Lim
Square… But does it really work? If you just google it, you would
probably find devotees who swear by it, and others who literally spit
at the sound of the words ‘balance’ and ‘board’. But if you are aware
of unwanted chubbiness creeping on during this festive season, why not
hope on a board with a game controller in hand, and hope for the best?

Gamasutra.com has done it again, more so because of the honorary mention of a game I have been totally addicted to for the past few months. Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I do To Deserve This?
is a well-played low-res chunky graphic game that runs on a senseless
yet comedic plot-line. Coming 5th in line in Gamasutra's little verdict for its ‘Top 5 Handheld
games’ list, I did think this little warped up game deserved a little
more compliment. Seeing the ranks of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor come first, followed by Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, and subsequently Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure;
I have to say this: Humour is king. Without humour, nothing can
captivate our wandering eyes and game-lustful hearts.
Although,
regrettably the graphics of Holy Invasion could have been a 100% more
intensive (like replaying an old classic RPG game), it is fascinatingly like the old school dig-dug
game but with a little more depth. Still it is a personal preference of
having brainless highly-intensive fun, where for something on a PSP
platform, this game is brilliant except a little pricey.

Raskull's are headed to the XBLA, and we're hard pressed to think of why this isn't going to be a serious contender to the Wii's dominance for party games - Rock Band/Guitar Hero titles don't count.
The cutesy game will sport up to four-players, with either split-screen or single-screen depending on the game mode. So far it looks like a combination puzzler, platformer, and all around awesome toy-creator. The game is described as "Mario Kart meets Bomberman meets Castle Crashers", which creates a rather ambitious-sounding title. So far, based on screenshots and the gameplay trailer embedded below, it looks ready to at least live up to it. Look for it hitting the XBLA some time early next year.

 We
know, we know. I mean for this rather iconic point-and-click genre,
Monkey Island’s really done it right by our books. Who said only a good
solid combat-oriented obstacle-laden game would capture our mind and
soul? Sometime, a simplistic game as Monkey Island is what we need.
Since its first arrival in July, we have been pensively waiting its
final end, which is supposed to end with Guybrush Threepwood’s apparent
death.

If you've been poking around in the local arcade shops, you may have noticed Guitar Hero in there. Extremely overpriced, and totally not worth it. You only get one song! For three dollars. That's insane.
Now, if you're looking to win prizes from those ticket machines, here comes something else to suck your cash - Cooking Mama. The cutesy, appeals-to-everyone DS game has been made into an arcade machine, and will probably show up in arcades with ticketed prizes. So maybe Bugis. Or Northpoint's arcade up on the top floor.
The arcade machine, being sold by Universal Space, costs a cool USD$4,600 according to Arcade Heroes. Similar to the DS title, players pick a dish, and try to ace mini-games preparing the dish. Tickets are dispensed depending on how well you do at the game.

Massive Entertainment, fronted by ex-World in Conflict developer Martin Walfisz, has unveiled a new work of considerable potential. He's making a new quiz-MMO called Planeto Quiz. But more than simply answering questions ad nauseum, players get carrots via items.
These items can do anything from influence the types of questions you obtain, to the rewards for answering questions correctly, to screwing over the other team. Finally, a quiz game where we can legally cheat!
It feels kind of similar to a Japanese MMO quiz game I'd seen in Japan (The name of which eluded me) The only difference was that that MMO was played in arcades with your own personal memory card slotted into the machines. Unlike the Japanese arcades however, which limited its appeal, Massive is hoping to go, well, massive. The free-to-play game is planned to interface between the web, mobile platforms such as the iPhone, consoles, and is looking to tie itself to various accounts you already have. So instead of having to sign up with a specific login, you can join (potentially) with your Facebook, Myspace, Google, or other OpenID logins.
As Martin said, "In our game there is no need to run around wielding a sword and killing orcs. World of Warcraft
and similar games are great fun but mainly cater to a niche audience
interested in fantasy role-playing. Planeto Quiz gives our players the
same depth, but in a much more accessible and inclusive environment."
The game is currently in closed beta.

Remember this post where we noted a rumorang going around about EA acquiring Playfish? Pet Society, Country Story, Restaurant City et al? That Playfish that sucks up your soul in Facebook?
Yeah. Seems the rumors were right. EA has officially acquired Playfish for about US$275 million dollars and US$25 million in equity. There's an additional US$1 million up for grabs if they achieve some performance-side markers.
This looks like a really natural extension of EA's move into flash-based games (Check out Dragon Age Journeys as an example) What it means for the current kids playing the games? Not much. What does it mean for the industry as a whole? Far more interesting directions for EA to go into.
Read the full press release after the break.

Can you guess what's going on in the below video?
Unless you were really sharp on the uptake, the whole point of new game Shadow Walker is to, well, create shade to walk in. Kids these days, too damn pampered. They'll even get a magical fairy to create artificial shade so they can stay out of the sun and keep that pasty white complexion.
From developer Game Arts, this cutesy-title is coming to WiiWare in Japan and launches next week on Japan's market for 1,000 Wii points. Worth it? Or a reminder that you really need more Vitamin D sunshine? You decide.

Simple, basic, but functionally fun. You're a er, hamster, running from left to right nabbing crystals and trying to go as fast as you can. In front of you, the land moulds itself. Behind you, it crumbles into dust.
The first few levels of Cave Chaos are deceptively easy, making you wonder what the fuss is about. It's only later when things begin to heat up. And that's where the fun starts.
There's even a fun two-player mode (If you can sucker another co-worker to sit by your computer to twiddle the keyboard) where players can sucker their buddies into certain doom.
Try it here.

How do you learn a word a day, train your typing skills, and still have fun? Clockwords, of course.
A fun little browser-based time waster, you'll have to type out words to fire at encroaching spiders before they despoil your secret inventions. Using bonus letters unlocks further chambers with even more bonus letters, and the longer the word, the more bullets are fired.
Not too shabby!
Give it a go right here.

Indie casual RTS/Feel-good game Dyson is nearing its commercial release. With it comes news that the competition winner for their commercial name will be Eufloria. Sounds really hippy to us. But then again, the game does look very calming.
While users can still nab the free version off their website here, it looks like the developers have added a good pile of things into their commercial release which we'll be keeping an eye on.

Although 2D only, there are still quite a number of options and near endless possibilities you can end up with when creating a creature. After you have created a creature, you can even bring it for training, playing a simple little mini game where you creature has to knock out a couple of objects thrown at it.
